The containment skin care routine that helps soothe anxiety.

I’ve always been an anxious person, but the current state of the world doesn’t help. I have been in lockdown for over two months, miss my family and friends and my favorite breakfast spot is three miles away.

It’s pretty hard not to feel constantly overwhelmed and my anxiety is at an all time high.

So in addition to the usual techniques of walking, deep breathing, and the occasional yoga practice in my small living room (which can barely accommodate my chihuahua, let alone my body length), I have developed a new skin care routine that is surprisingly helping me cope.

At the start of confinement, I really didn’t do anything to take care of myself. I went through the motions of ordering groceries online (I recommend trying every Tim Tam hybrid), trying to get out of the house at least once a day, and spending way too much time looking at my own face. in Zoom work meetings.

After work, I scrolled endlessly on my phone, while half-watching a show on a streaming platform. I wasn’t focusing on feeling recharged, I was focusing on distraction instead.

At the end of each day, I felt drained, and sometimes I had barely taken a hundred paces.

It was during my third week of confinement that I imagined my new soothing skincare routine.

When I was a kid, my mom used to put lavender under my pillow to help me sleep and feel calm. I’ve always found it to work, or at the very least, it smelled good, so I thought it couldn’t help but slap myself in the face.

Unfortunately, I have very dry skin that tends to flake, redness, and feel pulled and itchy, so finding products that don’t end up giving me a rash is hard work.
