Summer is a difficult time to navigate the makeup world. My skin tends to turn oily, so when it’s hot and humid I don’t like wearing a full face of whatever. The combination of moisture, foundation, and my oily T-zone is the recipe for a mess I just don’t want to face when I go out. I prefer light skin tones, but haven’t found my holy grail yet, although I’m currently looking at Ilia’s Super Serum Skin Tint shade which has Cindy Crawford’s seal of approval.

What makes Ilia’s serum so appealing is its inclusion of SPF: it’s a two-in-one product (a skin-tint-SPF hybrid, if you will) that provides clean, light coverage, as well as SPF 40 protection. After all, it stands to reason that you should use SPF all year round, but it’s also the first thing too many people forget to apply. With the Illia formula, you are already covered.

“It’s a skin tone, an SPF 40, and has a bit of that glow, so I’m loving it for the summer,” Crawford explained. And she’s not the only one who uses the Ilia serum when the temperatures are rising. A customer wrote: “Love it! Excellent for dry and aging skin. Nice dewy finish.” They added that it even held out for at least eight hours in the hot Arizona desert temperatures.

The formula includes powerful ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid which plumps and hydrates, Squalane which balances the skin and improves its elasticity, and Niacinamide which smoothes the texture of the skin. According to the brand, the top-rated skin tone “evens skin tone, softens fine lines and blemishes, and dries for a natural, dewy finish.” It sounds like a winner for us.

Along with all of the skin-friendly ingredients, buyers who have used the serum say it’s silky smooth and blends well, doesn’t settle into fine lines and pores (amazing!), And gives skin a shine, makeup look without makeup while still providing sufficient coverage. One reviewer said it provided enough coverage to conceal their meslama, another mentioned that it completely hides their enlarged pores, so much so that their skin looks like porcelain, while another even said that the skin tone is like “a real Instagram filter”.

“I’ve been looking for this makeup my whole life. Something that smoothed my skin tone, but didn’t stick, fade, or make me pop,” read another review. “It melts, it’s weightless, it’s a miracle. My skin has never looked so good.”

This serum checks all the boxes: it is resistant to extreme temperatures, conceals and offers sufficient protection against UVA, UVB, UVC, blue light and infrared rays. Shop for the serum, along with other summer beauty products from Crawford, below.
